~Posted 4/23 - "Fireworks" (A UK magazine) Reviews Carter's Album "Now Or Never"

By Gill Hosie

Most of us shouldn't know who Nick Carter is and those of us who do are probably wondering why he is getting reviewed in Fireworks. Well, Nick Carter is a member of the Backstreet Boys and this is his first solo album and it rocks with the best of them!

The album kicks off with his debut single, "Help Me." This is a catchy pop/rock tune (co-written by Von Grooves' Matthew Gerrard) which had caught my attention several times while channel surfing through the music channels on satellite.

The next track is "My Confession" and you now start to gradually feel the album going along a more rockier road. By the time I reach track 3, I was gobsmacked - "I Stand For You" is an out and out rocker with catchy chorus and power chords. "Girls in the USA" is absolutely amazing. Imagine a mix of Def Leopard ("Pour some sugar...) with early Danger Danger and throw in a touch of nu-breed. Pure stadium rock.

The rock vein continues all the way through with the likes of "Is it Saturday yet?" and "Blow Your Mind." One thing to mention - on several of the tracks the first 30 or 40 seconds sound a bit weird, but once they get going they do literally blow your mind!

Things do lighten up slightly, however, with a few ballads thrown into the mix. Do not expect Backstreet Boys type ballads. These are pure power ballads. "Do I Have To Cry For You" is reminisent of early Bryan Adams whilst the awesome "Heart Without a Home" is a pure AOR (Album Oriented Rock) classic. "Miss America" is another one of my faves. Lyrically not one for the teenyboppers, but it has a slightly sensual sound to it - kinda reminds me of Prince circa "Purple Rain."

My only criticism of the album is Nick's voice which is a bit weak for my tastes. I much prefer a more manly voice, and had the ballads of "Miss America" been sung by the likes of James Christain or Stan Bush, then the whole AOR scene would have been raving about them.

But this IS a great album. Don't let the fact that he is in a boyband put you off. I don't know if he's just trying to be trendy since rock's on a comeback or if he's finally getting a chance to do the kind of songs that he likes. The latter I hope and I look forward to the next one.

Try it. I made the editor listen to it for awhile before I told him who it was. He was so shocked that he asked me toreview it!

The Backstreet Boys are supposed to be in talks currently about a new album that is due by September the latest, and a new single by summer. Howie Dorough has penned many new songs for the album, so have the rest of the boys. Not much is known besides that, and that they are still in talks.

~Posted 2/26- February 2003 Article on Nick Carter from Hot Boat Magazine

He took the offshore world by storm in much the same way he has conquered the music scene. Nick Carter announced his plans for an offshore team back at the Miami International Boat Show and nothing has been the same for Super Vee competition this year. As Carter told HotBoat, "I am a maniac when it come this boat-racing stuff!" Although he can't be in the boat, Nick Carter is a vital part of the impeccable team he has assembled. Carter told HotBoat, "We strive to find the right people, and we take care of our people. We're all about winning. I hate to lose."

As the season progressed, Carter made it his business to accommodate the ever-increasing number of fans and media at every stop. In an impressive showing, the Key West team of veteran throttleman Lee Murray and driver Steve Oropeza took the 40-foot Fountain to the winner's circle seven times and captured the 2002 National title. "I am very happy that I have an incredible team," Nick said. "They have worked very hard and put all this together."

Following the team win on Wednesday (Nov. 20), an elated Nick told HotBoat, "I'm very happy with the way the engines were running. Mercury has really supported us." Carter continued, "We had some competition early in the race, and we stood strong. The motors stood strong, the boat held up. You have to stand strong. You can't take that away from us."

Standing on the sea wall Saturday (Nov. 23), Nick watched his team and cheered, "Stay strong, baby, stay strong." Their stunning performance, paired with Wednesday's victory, landed Nick Carter Racing a World Championship title. Surrounded by family, friends, and fans, Nick Carter said, "I like the energy, I like the vibe, I like the people, and I like the competition. This is why I wanted to get involved in the sport. This is the first of many things to come in the racing world. We can pioneer something here. Now we are bringing the entertainment aspect to boat racing. What a way to celebrate the concert tonight."

Nick Carter wrapped up his record-breaking season performing in a free concert Saturday night that also featured his brother Aaron, No Secrets, O-Town, and Jen.

~Posted 1/19- Brittany Snow Pals With BSB Nick Carter

Brittany Snow

Best Good Girl

AGE 16

MOMENT OF ARRIVAL Seducing viewers into a kinder, gentler frenzy as Catholic schoolgirl and Bandstand regular Meg Pryor on NBC's nostalgic drama American Dreams. (This Brittany can do the mashed potato but will never bare her midriff.)

HOW SHE GOT THE PART After three auditions, the Tampa native read for a room of ''really, really scary executives in suits'' who shocked her by hiring her on the spot. ''That never happens,'' says Snow, ''so of course, I was crying like a baby.''

FIRST JOB The budding actress had ''the worst job even though it was the best job'' -- a role on Guiding Light. ''I commuted back and forth to New York every week, which was crazy...but I got to know the [flight attendants] so well. I could walk on the plane and be like, 'Hey, Bob!'''

WHAT FAME HAS BROUGHT Friendship with American idols. The self-proclaimed Backstreet Boys ''groupie'' met Nick Carter when he guested on Dreams. ''He was so cool. We talk all the time, and we're really kinda, you know...we're friends.''

WHAT'S NEXT Wrapping this season of Dreams and looking at movie scripts, hoping for a Reese Witherspoon biopic. ''I am a huge fan!''

~Posted 1/15- Jive Getting Revenge

Since the Backstreet Boys (including Nick) $75 million lawsuit against Jive/Zomba, Jive has been trying to get back at Nick. Jive has been deliberately tried to make Nick look bad to his fans by making it impossible to carry out certain shows so that he has to cancel. They have given him a limit of 17 shows that he can have, and they are preventing him from playing back at his home state of Florida. They have completely shut down any promotions of him, his street team has been stopped, and his homepage is said to be taken off the internet soon. Not only Nick, but Jive has now started punishing his little brother Aaron by stopping his street team from promoting also. I really do not understand the reason behind what they are doing to Aaron, he has nothing to do with the lawsuit, but I guess they are trying to punish Nick in anyway they can, and hurting Aarons career also hurts Nick personally. If the BSB, Nick, and Aaron want my advice, it would be to get out of Jive and sign with another record company that actually supports its artists!
